Choosing Your Makeup Artist

Writer: Tara MatosTara Matos

This can be a challenge for so many reasons.

If you have ever had your makeup done and hated it's understandable

for this to be a very selective process.(We all remember wanting to wipe it all off trama)

So I hopeyou find this is helpful !

What to look for:

A portfolio with a makeup and aesthetic that is your personal style and overaall vibe of the event.

While some artists can be versatile you you should see something

that you absolutely thinks fits you. From Bold looks to Glamorous and Natural you should see some variation not cookie cutter styles.

An experienced artist will have worked on a variety of skin tones ,textures and types, ensuring they can create a look to compliment you perfectly.

Also your artist will make you feel

confident and comfortable.

We spend a considerably amount of time with you and this should

be fun and exciting.

Consistency

Positive reviews should mention the Artist abilility to create the desired look and how they made clients feel at ease .

Evaluate

What products and brands do they use? A good artist will use high quality makeup that is long lasting and appropriate for multiple skin types.

Customizable techniques

Are they open to discussing their customizing techniques to suit your particular needs.

Whether you want airbrush or traditional makeup , your artist should be able to guide you to the right approach for you.

Schedule a Trial

Booking a makeup Preview appointment allows you to see a paticular style of makeup , discuss your goal and make adjustments if needed!

Communication

Try to be as detailed as possible with your artist and have Inspo photos .

If there is something you dont love, communicate that during the trial so they are able to offer a different approach. Remember you have to wear it. While your makeup artist has a bit more experience on how things will translate to photographs, there should be a happy middle ground to find your comfort zone and what looks best.

Pricing

Makeup Artist cost varies widely depending on location and services they offer.

Finding someone in your budget is important, but you do not want to compromise quality!

Ask about any additional fees etc

Book Early

Ensure your Artist is available for your date by booking several months to a year in advance.

Ensure they can accomadate your scheduele if it an early start inquire about extra fees or if they require a hotel stay . The last thing youd want is to have your artist to arrive late due to some unavoidable incident.

Trust

Personality in your Makeup Artist matters

Doyou want someone who is friendly and proffessional and easy to work with.A good rapport will help make the whoile process more relaxed and enjoyable.

Choosing the right makeup artist/ hairstylist is more than just finding someone who can apply makeup its about someone who can create a personalized experience that makes you feel and look your best. Keep these tips in mind when choosing your artist and you will be sure to find someone to bring your beautiful vision to life!
